Script to screen: loose concept art
Most of the sketch work I have done for the Script to screen project.
Script
INT. SPACE SHIP
POV - ALIEN - FOCUS
The scene starts with alarms going off for a second while the screen is still black. The borders retreat to the edge of the screen, like someone opening their eyes. The camera looks left and right a different panels and screens. There is a red light blinking and there is a planet very close by to the left. There a parts of the ship that look organic. one of the displays reads "Warp interrupted" and another "Entering atmosphere".
EYE LEVEL - INSIDE SHIP
We can see the alien finish waking up and grow increasingly panicked, her forehead starting to pale. She grabs the controls but they are shaking violently. A low groan sounds and the alien shouts in response.
MEDIUM SHOT - CAMERA 1 - PAN
We see the exterior of the ship with the alien in the cockpit. The ship has clear organic features such as eyes and skin, but clearly fused with large mechanical parts. It is starting to heat up as it starts entering the atmosphere. The camera slows down and stops showing the ship shoot towards the surface trailing flames.
POV - ALIEN - FOLLOW
The ship is rapidly approaching the surface, trying to steer to the only visible land. With a roar the ship starts crackling with faint purple energy. This seems slow it down a bit but not enough. The screen blacks out as the ship hits the ground.
EXT. ISLAND
HIGH ANGLE - CAMERA 1 - CRANE
The alien wakes up on a beach. Groggy at first but then gets her bearings. She gets up and rushes to the crashed ship. It appears intact.
OVER THE SHOULDER - CAMERA 2 - FOLLOW
As the alien stumbles around to the side of the ship we see it has been impaled by some strange plant.
LOW ANGLE - CAMERA 2 - TRACKING
The alien rushes to the ship's side and collapses beside it, her forehead going blueish. she comforts the ship as it dies, resting a hand on it. With a groan a compartment opens revealing a white and purple egg. The ship dies and the Alien, clearly distraught huddles over it. After a bit she looks up at the egg.
EXT. ISLAND CENTER
LONG SHOT - CAMERA 1 - STATIC
The Alien drags the egg to a small clearing next to a large rock.
THE BIRD'S EYE VIEW - CAMERA 1 - AERIAL
The alien is detaching the mechanical components of the dead ship from the organic part. There is a neat pile of them to one side.
LOW ANGLE - CAMERA 2 - TRACKING
We see the alien climbing one of the otherworldly looking trees, breaking leaves and sticks off of it. She hangs off of a stem, breaking a giant leaf off as she falls to the ground.
MEDIUM SHOT - CAMERA 1 - STATIC
The Alien is using the sticks and leaves to create a makeshift shelter. As she steps back it slumps a little but stays up.
EXT. ISLAND CENTER
LONG SHOT - CAMERA 1 - STATIC
The sky is starting to get darker and there is an audible wind picking up.
LOW ANGLE - CAMERA 2 - STATIC
The egg takes up most of the foreground and is shivering. After a second the Alien notices it and starts to create a fire.
MEDIUM SHOT - CAMERA 2 - TRACKING
The alien gathers together some wood and tinder. After intense concentration a purple spark leaps from the alien's finger, setting light to the wood. As the Alien builds up the fire something hisses behind her.
The Alien stands up and turns around, as camera pans up it reveal a smallish bird-like quadruped. It hisses again, some of the feathers on it's neck standing up.
Thinking quickly the Alien grabs a stick from the fire that's burning at one end. Her forehead is almost glowing red. She waves it at the creature and it backs off a little. Then, snarling, the creature tries to dash to the egg. The alien lunges to intercept it and the screen goes black.
EXT. ISLAND CENTER
LONG SHOT - CAMERA 1 - STATIC
It is night time now and the alien is sitting by the fire with the egg next to her. She is holding a stick over the fire with some meat skewered on it.
MEDIUM SHOT - CAMERA 1 - TRACKING
We see the alien making a pile of leaves in the shelter as the fire dies down in the background. She then drags the egg inside the shelter.
HIGH ANGLE - CAMERA 2 - STATIC
The alien curls up on top of the leaf pile, brushing some on top of her.
LONG SHOT - CAMERA 1 - STATIC
We get a full view of the clearing with the fire embers glowing in the middle and the shelter off to one side. There is a gentle breeze blowing and a small moon is glowing brightly. The screen fades to black over a couple of seconds.
EXT. ISLAND CENTER
CU - CAMERA 2 - FOCUS
There is a feint sound on cracking while the screen is still dark. We then get a close up of the Aliens face just as she opens her eyes. A louder crack sounds and she looks to the side.
LOW ANGLE - CAMERA 2 - FOCUS
A close up view of the egg shows it cracking, with glowing purple liquid leaking out. The Alien Kneels down next to it, wiping off some of the liquid. A large piece of shell on the top comes off.
OVER THE SHOULDER - CAMERA 1 - STATIC
The head of a small reptilian slug creature peaks out of the shell. It bears a clear resemblance to the ship, without the machinery bolted on. The Alien carefully picks it up out of the shell, as her forehead starts glowing a sunny yellow. The screen fades to black as she is holding the little ship up.
